Sting may have painted his face for the last time at a fan signing, but the Icon just dropped a major hint that his story with AEW isn’t completely finished.
In a new interview with Denise Salcedo, the wrestling legend opened up about what it felt like to do his final fan signing in face paint, reflecting on his decades-long journey. While he remained calm on the surface, the energy around him made it clear this wasn’t just another gig.
“You know, I feel completely normal — like this is just another gig for me. But then you have people like my daughter, for example, sending me crying emojis on the phone, saying, ‘Dad, this is your last one ever.’ And then all my buddies and friends coming here to be part of this. It’s those kinds of moments — because everyone’s feeding into it — where there’s this strong undercurrent of, ‘Wow, this is the end.’ I mean, this really is it.”
Sting admitted it’s bittersweet, noting he won’t miss the grind of travel — but he will miss the connection with fans for good reason.
“I’ll be glad to get off the airplanes, trains, and automobiles, but I’ll miss the people — absolutely. Not just the roar of the crowd in wrestling, but these meet-and-greets, the one-on-ones, the storytelling. It’s amazing to hear everything the fans have to say. They’re so appreciative and grateful — and so am I.”
The Icon then addressed fans directly with one last heartfelt message… and left the door wide open for more AEW appearances.
“I just want to say thank you. I love you — all of you. I really believe we’ve had a love affair going on for many decades now. I will miss all of you for sure, but there will be little bits and pieces with AEW down the road, I’m sure. Love you all. Thank you.”
Sting last appeared during AEW’s WrestleDream pay-per-view in October 2025, where he helped out Darby Allin against Jon Moxley. So, while there’s no word yet on what those “little bits and pieces” might be, it’s clear Sting isn’t disappearing completely. Whether it’s behind the scenes or in a special appearance role, the legend’s legacy with AEW — and the fans — isn’t finished just yet.
