While others had already shared their thoughts online, the WWE Hall of Famer said he wanted people to know that he loved Hulk Hogan, still does, and will miss him a lot.
“Man, I had so many world title matches with Hulk, and I’m really thankful for that. He was kind of a hero to me. You know, a lot of us wrestlers aren’t going to be around forever — and what happened yesterday reminded us of that.“
“Yeah, Hulk… Hulk meant a lot to me. I’m glad I get the chance to talk about him. A lot of people have been posting on social media, but this is my first chance to say it: I loved Hulk Hogan. I still do. I’m going to miss him.”
Sting said Hogan gave a lot to wrestling and helped many people in their careers, including himself. Their matches broke records across the country, especially in places like Charlotte, and even helped make wrestling video games like those on Nintendo 64 popular.
The Icon also remembered when Hogan first came to WCW. Some wrestlers felt pushed aside, but Sting didn’t feel that way. He believed Hogan would help sell tickets, improve ratings, and make more money for everyone. Sting said Hogan did more than just wrestle he became bigger than the sport and that Hogan was the first to reach that level.
“He gave so much to wrestling — more than anyone else. He helped raise everyone else’s careers to a new level.“
“He helped Sting rise too. Sting vs. Hogan — we broke records across the country. Here in Charlotte, we had record-setting pay-per-views. And who could forget the Nintendo 64 games, right? Just amazing.“
“I remember when Hogan first came to WCW, people asked me, ‘Don’t you feel like the company is pushing you aside for him?’ And I said, ‘Not at all. We’ve got the King of Kings here — Hulk Hogan. He’s going to sell tickets, help us all make more money, boost ratings — it’s a win for everyone.’ Look at what he did — he went beyond wrestling. No one else had done that before. He was the first.”
Sting’s heartfelt message to Hulk Hogan meant a lot to wrestling fans and other wrestlers. From their famous matches to how Hogan helped make wrestling popular all over the world, it’s clear that his legacy will live on through the people he inspired, just like Sting himself.
