Steve Austin built one of the most recognizable characters in professional wrestling history, but the WWE Hall of Famer says the larger-than-life “Stone Cold” persona is now firmly in the past as he focuses on the next chapter of his life.

Austin recently appeared on the Busted Open Podcast with Dave LaGreca and Bully Ray, where the conversation turned toward how he has handled life after stepping away from the wrestling business. While many legendary performers remain closely tied to their on-screen identities, Austin explained that he has been able to separate his everyday life from the character that helped define the Attitude Era.

During the discussion, Austin admitted that even though he has moved on from that part of his career, he still enjoys occasionally revisiting moments from his time in WWE when fans share them online.

“Don’t get me wrong, man. They make all these memes on Instagram and I’ll put one on my stories or whatever, so I get a chance to relive that stuff every now and then. And I don’t do it to be an egomaniac, but people are making them, you know, and that’s what I was known for. I’ll post them on my Instagram.”

Austin said those clips and fan edits remind him of the incredible experiences he had during his peak years in wrestling, including the massive crowd reactions and the atmosphere that surrounded WWE during the late 1990s.

“So it’s cool to see that stuff and remember the good times and the pops and the camaraderie and just the lifestyle. Man, that was the best job I ever had.”

Even though those memories remain special to him, Austin made it clear that he no longer lives in that era of his life. Austin added that he is now enjoying a much different pace of life compared to the demanding schedule he maintained during his wrestling career.

“And it’s over, and it’s been over for a long time, so I have moved on. But it’s cool to see some of the stuff they put together and remember the good times.”

“Right now I’m doing good times in a different fashion.”

The Texas Rattlesnake has stayed busy with several projects outside of wrestling, including racing, business ventures, and spending time with family. While the Stone Cold character remains one of the most influential figures in wrestling history, Austin seems content letting that chapter remain part of the past while embracing the life he has built since leaving the ring.

Even decades after his final full-time run in WWE, Austin’s legacy continues to resonate with fans who still celebrate his career and the unforgettable moments he created during the Attitude Era.
