John Cena’s heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber shocked the wrestling world, but Steve Austin saw it as something that was long overdue.
Speaking with The Schmo, Stone Cold gave his take on Cena’s shocking betrayal of Cody Rhodes, where he aligned himself with The Rock and Travis Scott. “Hey, that happened. Sooner or later. Finally, it happened,” Austin said.
The Texas Rattlesnake is curious to see how fans react to this new side of Cena. “It’ll be interesting to see—you know, whether the people accept him, accept him as a heel, or has he turned himself more babyface? I think it remains to be seen as the story unfolds.”
Regardless of how fans respond, Austin thinks Cena’s turn is exactly what WWE needed to build toward WrestleMania 41.
“But nonetheless, they’ve kicked off an epic build into WrestleMania. And that’s what they do every single year. And this year, it’s here in Las Vegas, so it’s gonna be pretty damn awesome.”
With Cena embracing his darker side and fans still processing the moment, Austin’s words add even more intrigue to the situation.
