Steve Austin Addresses Rumor That He Gave Up Drinking Beer

Steve Austin is famous for more than just laying in Stone Cold Stunners in the middle of the ring. He is also known for his beer bashes, a passion that even saw him launch his own brand of brew. However, everyone gets older and must change over time. That doesn’t mean Austin is giving up Steveweisers any time soon, even though he purposefully wasted so much beer during those in-ring segments.

Stone Cold Steve Austin recently cleared up a long-running fan rumor during an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, addressing speculation that he no longer drinks beer. Given how closely beer was tied to Austin’s on-screen persona during the Attitude Era, the rumor has floated around online for years.

That topic came up during the conversation, as Chris Van Vliet pointed out that fans had noticed Austin hadn’t been seen chugging beers the way he once did. Austin didn’t dodge the question and instead explained how his habits have changed with time. So, he didn’t give up drinking all together at all.

“I like that you have now crushed that rumor. There's this rumor online that you don't drink beer anymore.”

“Yes, I still drink beer, but just, you know, it's kind of like the old timers used to come up to you in the dressing room when you first started breaking into business — ‘Kid, you got to pick your spots,’ you know. Take all those bumps. So, yeah, these days you don't need all those hangovers. You pick your spots. Friday night is kind of like I still eat and, you know, watch what I eat pretty strictly. So Friday is usually my beer night when I'll have a couple IPAs.”

“And that’s when I, you know, pick my spot.”

Chris Van Vliet then joked about Steve Austin possibly switching to wine during the week. This referenced a meme online showing Austin holding a wine glass. Austin laughed it off and explained how that image took on a life of its own.

“Yeah, there’s that meme going around of my wife and I — it was just me sitting there holding a wine glass because she took the picture. And, you know, something about Uncle Steve or this or that or whatever. You know, everything turns into a meme.”

Steve Austin went on to share that wine has become something he and his wife genuinely enjoy together, especially during trips to California. What started as casual tasting eventually turned into a regular getaway tradition.

“But yeah, my wife and I have been going back and forth to Napa Valley for years. And we love it out there. We started off drinking the big cabs and merlots, and we're more into pinot noirs now. So yeah, man, we try to get to Napa at least once a year or every other year.”

In the end, Steve Austin made it clear that the rumors missed the point. He still enjoys beer, still appreciates a good drink, and still lives life on his terms. The difference now is balance, moderation, and knowing when to pick his spots. This is a philosophy that fits just as well outside the ring as it used to inside it.

We will keep a close eye on Steve Austin’s whereabouts and what he’s up to. You never know if the 61-year-old WWE Hall of Famer might have another match left in him. That is certainly a “never say never” situation indeed.
