Stephanie Vaquer might be on the shelf, but there’s finally an update on Stephanie Vaquer’s ankle injury—and it turns out there’s more to it than just storyline.

Following the brutal on-screen attack by Raquel Rodriguez on the January 5, 2026 episode of WWE RAW, fans questioned whether Vaquer’s ankle injury was part of the storyline or something more serious. Now we have an answer.

Speaking on the Post-RAW show, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp confirmed that the Women’s World Champion is legitimately hurt.

“It is a legit injury. I was just told that the injury was legit, and I do not know the severity of it.”

While there’s still no official timeline, Sapp pointed to one encouraging sign — Vaquer is not in a cast and was even able to do some physical work on Monday Night RAW.

“Her being in a walking boot instead of a cast, and doing some physicality, is at least optimistic. Since she defended the title last week, if the injury isn’t that bad, you can buy yourself six or seven weeks. You can probably buy yourself till Chamber, considering that the Royal Rumble is coming up soon.”

The injury angle was front and center on WWE Raw this week, and it played out across two brutal segments. Stephanie Vaquer made her entrance in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center wearing a walking boot and cut an emotional promo in both English and Spanish. She thanked the fans for standing by her, even acknowledging her respect for Nikki Bella and Raquel Rodriguez following their triple threat match the previous week.

But just as she tried to close out her segment with a defiant line — “this will not stop me” — Raquel Rodriguez stormed the ring and attacked her. However, Raquel didn’t stop there.

After targeting Vaquer’s already-injured ankle with a vicious chair assault, she returned backstage later in the night to attack Vaquer a second time. WWE officials tried to intervene, but the damage was done. Commentary closed the segment with Michael Cole somberly stating, “Stephanie is hurt bad.”

Vaquer won the vacant Women’s World Championship back on September 20, 2025, defeating IYO SKY at Wrestlepalooza — and her reign has lasted over 100 days. But now, fans are left wondering if her time as champion is ticking down.

Do you think WWE should keep the title on Stephanie Vaquer until Elimination Chamber, or crown a new champion in her absence? Drop your thoughts below.
