Stephanie Vaquer didn’t just win a title at Wrestlepalooza—she lived a dream 15 years in the making, and shared it with someone very special for the first time.
Vaquer captured the vacant WWE Women’s World Championship by defeating IYO SKY with a picture-perfect Spiral Tap at the ESPN-era launch event. Originally set to challenge Naomi at WWE Clash In Paris, plans shifted after Naomi announced her pregnancy and relinquished the title. That opened the door for Vaquer to step into the spotlight on one of WWE’s biggest stages.
But the victory meant far more than just championship gold. Speaking to Pete Rosenberg after the match, Vaquer got emotional when she revealed that her father was in the crowd—and it was the first time he had ever seen her wrestle. Not just in WWE, but anywhere. Explaining how much the moment meant to her, Vaquer said she’s been dreaming of this for over a decade:
“This is the dream of my life. I dream with this every day the last 15 years. So, um, for me — my big dream — with my dad, first time see me live in my match. Uh, make history today.”
When Rosenberg asked if this was his first time watching her in WWE, she clarified it was far more than that:
“Yeah. No, first time he, uh, see a match… uh, show period.”
Rosenberg pushed further—did she really mean ever?
“Yes. Ever. It’s first time ever.”
To make the story even more powerful, the match happened to take place on her father’s birthday. That moment, holding the championship and handing it to her dad on the biggest night of her career, was the culmination of everything Vaquer had worked for.
Vaquer’s rise to the top of WWE’s women’s division already feels like a statement, but this emotional post-match revelation gave fans a deeper glimpse into the woman behind the wrestler.
