The lucha mask drama that started at the Royal Rumble is heading straight for WrestleMania as a battle between both El Grande Americanos is expected to take place at the Show of Shows, that’s if everything goes as planned.

After weeks of buildup following the surprise return of Chad Gable as the Original El Grande Americano at the 2026 Royal Rumble, WWE is moving forward with the showdown: El Grande Americano vs. El Grande Americano is planned for WrestleMania 42.

According to a WrestleVotes during a Q&A session on February 9, 2026, the company is fully committed to the match—and believes it’s a major draw.

“WWE sees the money here; this is making the Mania card. It’s a surefire WrestleMania match. It makes the WrestleMania card either way.”

The storyline kicked off when Gable returned under the mask at Royal Rumble in Riyadh, eliminating the current El Grande Americano—played by Ludwig Kaiser—before being tossed out himself moments later. On the following WWE RAW, Gable cost Kaiser a match against Je’Von Evans by interfering just as the new Americano was about to cheat with a loaded mask. The crowd erupted as Gable hit the ring, setting up what fans have been dying to see: OG vs. Impostor.

With Gable back from injury and the company now treating the mask as a legacy identity, WWE is banking on the Americano persona turning into a full-fledged WrestleMania rivalry. And if WrestleVotes is right, this unique mirror match is already locked in for April.

Do you want El Grande Americano vs. El Grande Americano to be mask vs. mask at WrestleMania 42? Or should WWE raise the stakes even higher? Sound off in the comments!
