WWE is kicking off tonight’s August 22, 2025 episode of SmackDown in a big way—Becky Lynch is set to open the show live from her home country of Ireland.
The WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion has arrived at the 3Arena in Dublin and will officially start the broadcast, setting the tone for what’s expected to be a major night on the road to Clash in Paris. With her recent feud involving Nikki Bella heating up, all eyes are on what The Man will have to say or do when she takes the mic in front of her people.
Her segment comes on a loaded card that also includes the return of John Cena, who will be appearing in Ireland for the last time as part of his retirement tour. Cena is preparing for his upcoming match against Logan Paul at Clash in Paris, and Dublin marks one of the final stops on his farewell road.
Aleister Black is scheduled to take on R-Truth in a one-on-one rematch after losing their previous encounter. The Motor City Machine Guns will face off against Carmelo Hayes and The Miz, following a win by Melo Don’t Miz last week. Charlotte Flair is set to wrestle Piper Niven as tensions rise between Flair, Alexa Bliss, and Chelsea Green’s group. And The Street Profits will battle two members of MFT in tag team action.
With Becky Lynch opening the show in Ireland, John Cena saying goodbye to the country, and Clash in Paris just days away, SmackDown is shaping up to be a pivotal night for WWE.
