Colt Cabana just made a surprise return to AEW—but it didn’t end how he probably expected.

During the July 17 AEW Collision tapings in Chicago, Cabana was spotted at the commentary desk alongside Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness. The show was taped at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom, and while fans in attendance couldn’t hear the commentary live, they quickly noticed Cabana seated with the broadcast team—his first on-screen AEW appearance in months.

But his night didn’t end there. In a twist, the Death Riders attacked Cabana during the taping, laying him out in a vicious ambush. Whatever role he was supposed to play on commentary quickly turned into a beatdown.

It’s still unknown whether Cabana’s commentary role is a one-time deal or something more permanent. Since he lives in Chicago, this could’ve been a convenient local booking—or AEW could be planting seeds for a new storyline.

The last time Cabana appeared in AEW was on the December 4, 2024 edition of Dynamite, where he competed in a dark match against Satnam Singh. His sudden return was unexpected—and the assault by the Death Riders only adds more questions to what’s next.
