The June 27 edition of WWE SmackDown was an interesting show. The live feed crashed, but the show kept going, where we saw two title changes. That being said, this article contains a big spoiler.

Zelina Vega lost the WWE Women’s United States Championship to Giulia during Smackdown this week. That wasn’t the only big news coming out of Saudi Arabia. 14 years ago today, CM Punk dropped his legendary pipe bomb speech, and he came out with another stellar promo this week on SmackDown.

John Cena and CM Punk closed out the show this week in Saudi Arabia, and it was quite a show. Cena had a chance to cut a promo on CM Punk before their World Title match at Night of Champions, but then he heard some familiar music.

CM Punk came out to John Cena’s old Thuganomics music. He sported a Chicago Cubs jersey that had his name on the back. When he picked up the phone, Punk cut an entire promo in “Basic Punkanomics.”

CM Punk did a parody of John Cena’s old character. He even rapped his entire promo. This was a great throw-back, as Punk called Cena a “Temu Macklemore,” and so much more. This segment hit home in a lot of ways, including nostalgia.

The promo also connected with fans as they rallied behind the Second City Saint. He closed out his promo saying that John Cena will be busy washing James Gunn’s underwear after his WWE run is over, but he will always be The Marine to Punk. Then he said that Cena is Drake to Punk’s Kendrick Lamar before he dropped the mic.

We will have to see how Night of Champions goes fo CM Punk. He certainly left a lot in the ring during SmackDown.
