WWE’s plans for tonight’s SmackDown main event segment are now coming into focus, and it centers around two of the company’s biggest names.
According to Bodyslam.net, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton are scheduled to close tonight’s SmackDown. Both men were already advertised to appear, but this update confirms their segment will headline the show.
Rhodes is heading into hostile territory in St. Louis, where Orton will be appearing in his hometown. WWE has been building tension between the two ahead of their WrestleMania 42 showdown, making this closing segment one of the most important moments of the night.
With Orton’s mystery phone storyline still hanging in the background and Rhodes continuing to push back against him, the decision to close the show with these two suggests WWE could be setting up another major moment before WrestleMania.
The rest of the card is also packed, including Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss teaming up against Bayley and Lyra Valkyria, Rhea Ripley facing Mia Yim, and Sami Zayn opening the show as the new United States Champion.
Closing SmackDown is usually reserved for the biggest storyline of the night, and putting Rhodes and Orton in that spot signals WWE wants to send fans home talking about whatever happens between them.
