Is WWE planting seeds for CM Punk to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42? That’s the speculation after a few key teases dropped during Raw.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer suggested the company may be steering fans toward a blockbuster main event involving The Tribal Chief and The Second City Saint. While Seth Rollins had once been a rumored opponent for Roman, the latest moves tell a different story.
“I don't know, but I mean, it was gonna be Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. And Seth Rollins did say that he's hoping to get back for WrestleMania.”
But then Meltzer hinted at something far more intriguing:
“I was given the impression that the WrestleMania main event — that there will be on Saturday, there will be teases that will help you figure out who the WrestleMania main event will be. Certainly on Monday.”
Those teases, according to Meltzer, pointed squarely at either Cody Rhodes or CM Punk facing Roman Reigns. And with Cody having already faced Roman twice, Meltzer leaned in one direction:
“The tease on Monday was absolutely a tease for the main event, which would lead you to believe it's Roman Reigns challenging either Cody Rhodes or Punk — in which case, because Cody Rhodes has been done twice before, I would favor them going with Punk.”
He expects WWE to keep fans guessing a little longer:
“I think on Saturday, we will probably have a better idea, although I'm gonna guess they'll shoot a tease with both of them just to keep that question going.”
If WWE is indeed building to CM Punk vs Roman Reigns for WrestleMania 42, it would mark one of the most anticipated dream matches in recent memory—two of the company’s biggest icons clashing on the biggest stage.
