Sonya Deville is opening up about one of the most harrowing nights of her life—the 2020 home invasion where a stalker broke in with plans to kidnap her.
During her appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the former WWE star recounted the chilling series of events that nearly turned deadly. Deville explained that she had just come home from dinner with fellow Mandy Rose. The two were settling in for the night when Deville made a last-minute decision that might have saved their lives.
“I was dozing off on the couch… and I was about to just let us both sleep there, but I was like, ‘No, let me wake Mandy up and tell her to go to the guest bedroom.’ So I went to my bedroom. Thank God. I grab my phone, turn on the alarm system, and throw the phone in the bed.”
What happened just a few hours later would shake her to the core.
“At 2:43 a.m., I hear the alarm system go off. I run to the panel, and it says, ‘Living room door open.’ I thought Mandy went outside. I run to her room—she’s dead asleep. That’s when I freaked out. I started screaming at her to get up. I ran to the living room and turned on the lights.”
That’s when Deville came face to face with the intruder.
“I peel back the curtain to the sliding glass door… and the man is standing right at the door. Black mask, black backpack, all black clothes. I screamed, ran to Mandy, and we escaped out the garage door.”
Things could have ended much worse if not for the alarm—and quick thinking.
“Come to find out, he had already opened the other sliding door. When I ran, he thought I went up the stairs—so he was waiting at the bottom with a knife and pepper spray in his hands. He told police, ‘I know she has MMA training. I didn’t want to get my ass kicked, so I was going to wait till she came down and pepper spray her.’”
The situation was even more disturbing when she realized how close they came to tragedy.
“Had we slept on the couch, he had the door open. It was right behind the couch. We would’ve both been maced before we could even wake up. Had I not set my alarm that night, we would be dead. One different move… we wouldn’t have made it.”
Deville remains thankful that things didn’t turn fatal.
“I’m the luckiest person on the planet… people tell me that all the time. If one thing went differently—me or Mandy or both of us would not be here right now.”
The stalker had been obsessed with Deville for years, driving from South Carolina after working a shift at Applebee’s. He parked at a nearby church, hiked through wetlands, and snuck onto her patio. Before breaking in, he sent her one final DM: “I’m here, baby girl. Look outside.” He was ultimately sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Sonya’s story is a sobering reminder of the dangers public figures face—and how one life-saving decision can change everything.
