Sonya Deville isn’t holding back anymore—and she’s calling out WWE for leaving her in the dark during what she believed was the most pivotal run of her career.

On the Identity Crisis podcast with CJ Perry, Deville revealed that she was supposed to win her match at SummerSlam, but instead pitched the idea to lose and launch a dramatic new character. WWE went along with it… then completely disappeared on her.

“So, I actually went into Bruce and Vince and asked to lose and pitched the schizophrenic character… So, I was supposed to go over at SummerSlam, and then I went and pitched myself to lose. So, if there’s a defining moment that I probably could go back and change, it would probably be that.”

The match had a “loser leaves WWE” stipulation, but Deville expected to be brought back almost immediately under her new character. Instead, she says WWE ghosted her for months.

“Because what ended up happening was I lost and we were all on board for the schizophrenic character, and then one week went by, one month went by, two months went by.”

She tried reaching out—but got nothing until Bruce Prichard finally responded with a short message that crushed her expectations.

“I’m blowing up Bruce’s phone. What’s going on? I thought I was coming right back. I’m blowing up Vince’s phone, and then finally I got a text from Bruce like, after second thought, you know, we have to honor the stipulation. And the stipulation was loser leaves, so you got to stay gone for a minute. I was gone for five months.”

For Deville, the timing couldn’t have been worse. She felt confident, connected with fans, and in her creative prime.

“I was at the height of my career. I was cutting these promos and I felt so confident finally in my character… I had some real support from the fans for the first time. And I didn’t want to lose that. And I was devastated sitting home and it was no longer in my hands.”

Her momentum vanished. She was sidelined. And eventually, WWE let her go without renewing her contract. But instead of falling apart, Sonya chose to flip the situation into fuel.

“With even like getting released or you know not getting my contract renewed, it was very quickly a feeling of like ooh what’s next? And not because I wanted to leave, I didn’t, but the universe had made that decision for me. I was no longer in control.”

She now views the silence and release as a blessing in disguise.

“So quickly I was like, ‘Oh, well, what does the universe have in store? Cuz it must be amazing.’ Because we can only go up from here.”

Sonya Deville went from cutting the best promos of her career to being completely ghosted by the company she helped build—and she’s not sugarcoating it. WWE left her in limbo after she chose to lose at SummerSlam, only to vanish when it was time to follow through on the next chapter. Now out of the system and speaking freely, Sonya’s not playing the victim—she’s owning her story, regrets and all, and using it as fuel for whatever comes next. WWE might’ve closed the door, but Sonya’s already walking through the next one.
