Skye Blue is opening up about the life-changing advice she got from Adam Copeland while recovering from a serious ankle injury — and how it completely reshaped her mindset and in-ring character.
Speaking to Denise Salcedo, Skye revealed that before her surgery, she had never gone through such an intense medical procedure and wanted to know exactly what she was in for. Thanks to Kyle Fletcher, she was connected with Copeland, who had dealt with a similar injury, and his words of wisdom made a lasting impact.
“I think definitely… character-wise I definitely—so Adam Copeland, ‘cause he had broke his ankle, and he was talking to Kyle one day and I was like, ‘Can I just know… like, I’ve never had surgery… am I going to like die? Like, how bad is this going to be?’ So he definitely… like, he helped so much. He was like, ‘This is what this is going to be like. This is what this is going to feel like. Read a book.’ And he kept telling me, ‘Read books, it will help.’ And I was like, ‘You want me to read books? It’s crazy.’ And now, I don’t know if you can see, I have a bajillion books. Now I love reading, and I have gotten so much character inspiration from like fantasy books, and… it kind of like relit—I was a kid in school, I loved like dragons, witches, and, you know, all the things a private school kid should not like—and it kind of just like relit that fuse in my brain. And I was like, ‘Oh my god, I can use this with wrestling.’”
While the advice helped her creatively, the time away also gave Skye a new appreciation for the business and the fragility of a wrestling career.
“Sitting on a couch for so long, not being able to do this, kind of like lit a fire under my ass to say—because it’s like, we… like, this can be taken away from us so easily. Like, we can get hurt and then we can never do this again, or you can be out for so long because of the slightest little thing, you know? So it’s like, I don’t want to take it—I don’t ever want to take it—for granted. If I get to be in the ring, I’m going to make it the best however long I get to be in the ring. Like, I love this so much. So I just want to take advantage of every moment I get.”
Skye Blue’s return isn’t just about stepping back between the ropes — it’s about doing so with more creativity, gratitude, and determination than ever before.
