Skye Blue has been off AEW television since suffering a broken ankle during her match against Hikaru Shida on July 20, 2024. While recovering from surgery, Blue got a call from Adam Copeland, formerly known as Edge, who offered her advice based on his own experience with a similar injury.

Blue opened up about the unexpected impact Copeland’s phone call had on her while speaking to Iridian Fierro for Chicago’s WGN Radio. She revealed that Copeland encouraged her to read as a way to pass the time while she was forced to stay off her feet. “This might sound a little nerdy. But, Adam Copeland would call and check in about my ankle and explain the process. I’d never been through a surgery, and he had practically done the same thing,” Blue said.

At first, Blue was skeptical about taking up reading, admitting she didn’t think she could sit still long enough to focus on a book. But that soon changed. “I’ve gotten so much inspiration just from fantasy books and different characters, and how authors build characters. You can literally build yourself to be what you’re passionate about and what you love,” she explained.

Now, Blue has a room in her house dedicated to books and is using the inspiration she’s found to develop her wrestling persona. From her hair to her tattoos, Blue is finding new ways to express herself and connect with her character in the ring.

Blue is set to make her return in a Women’s World Title Eliminator 4-Way match at AEW Dynamite: Beach Break on May 14, and fans are eager to see how her newfound passion for reading will influence her character moving forward.
