The January 13 episode of NXT was quite a show. It also opened up by Ava making a big announcement about what is next for the brand’s top title.

Oba Femi shocked the world when he left the NXT Title in the ring after he beat Leon Slater at New Year’s Evil. That successful title defense was followed by The Ruler taking off with his tile in the ring.

With Oba Femi on his way to the main roster, a new champion needs to be determined. The Rock’s daughter opened up the show by explaining that Oba Femi vacated the NXT Title.

Ava announced that the men’s division is now “wide open.” She also can’t wait to see who steps up next. The entire men’s roster surrounded the ring as she made this announcement.

Then Ricky Starks came out, and he was greeted by a sea of boos in the NXT Arena. He said he told fans, and he ran Oba Femi, Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans out of NXT, it was a “hat trick.” Ricky Saints said that all eyes are on him right now, and he asked Ava to hand the title over to him.

Ava refused to hand the title over to Ricky Saints, because he doesn’t deserve an opportunity any more than everyone else who came into her office to try to get the title. Then Ava told everyone what is next.

On February 3 there will be a six man ladder match. The winner of that match will be the new NXT Champion. Qualifying matches for that ladder match will start next week. Ricky Saints wasn’t very happy about that, but this is how they will determine a new champion. After that, a big brawl erupted all over the ring.
