WWE is the goal for a lot of people, and it happens for some, but it is rare. Sadly, nothing like that will last forever, and Shotzi knows that all too well. Shotzi Blackheart is clearly thriving in her post-WWE chapter. She had a recent appearance on Muscle Memory at House of Glory made that abundantly clear.
While discussing a recent championship defense and her renewed presence on the independent circuit, Shotzi was asked what life has been like since leaving WWE. Her response focused less on bitterness or regret and more on something she felt she had lost for years.
“Oh my god. You know, I just love being in control of what I can do and how much I work and how creative I can be, you know.”
Shotzi was officially released by WWE on April 19, 2024, as part of a larger round of roster cuts. Her departure ended a four-year run with the company that included stints in NXT, appearances on SmackDown, and a reputation as one of WWE’s most visually distinctive and risk-taking Superstars.
Rather than stepping away or taking time off, she immediately leaned back into the independent wrestling scene. This is exactly where her career first gained traction before WWE. Since her release, Shotzi has worked a steady schedule. Shotzi was careful to acknowledge that her WWE experience mattered and helped shape her career, but she made a clear distinction between appreciation and preference.
“Working with WWE was great and it was a fun time, but I love being able to use my creativity to its absolute fullest, whether it’s, you know, painting a belt green or cutting really awesome promos with my friends and just showing up wherever I want to.”
Since returning to the independent wrestling scene, she has leaned into her presentation and character choices that would have been unlikely. She closed the topic by underscoring just how meaningful this freedom has been to her personally.
“It’s just been like the funnest time of my life, honestly.”
The moment stood out as one of the most sincere segments of the interview. Shotzi didn’t frame her exit from WWE as an escape or a setback. At this stage of her career, Shotzi isn’t chasing validation from a single platform. She’s building momentum on her own terms, creatively and professionally, and by her own account, enjoying every second of it.
We will have to see what happens next, but Shotzi is certainly going to give fans a show, no matter where she is.
