WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event made its debut at San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center on January 25. The event set the stage for the highly anticipated Royal Rumble on February 1. There were a few titles on the line tonight, but Sheamus had a chance to complete a huge journey.

Sheamus has been talking about how he wants to become IC Champion for a long time. That is the only title in WWE that he hasn’t won, and it would complete him as a shoo-in WWE Hall of Famer and ultimate grand slam champion. The Intercontinental Championship was on the line in Texas as Bron Breakker defended his title against Sheamus.

This IC Title match went on second of the night, right after Rhea Ripley’s hard-fought title defense over Nia Jax. Jesse Ventura joined Michael Cole and Pat McAfee on commentary for this match as well.

This match was a hard-hitting fest, as both competitors are known for their rough styles. At one point, Sheamus picked up Bron Breakker at ringside and launched him into the timekeeper’s area. Breakker returned fire with a spear at ringside before the commercial break.

When we got back from commercial, the match was still going and Breakker was in control. Then Sheamus called Breakker a “b*tch,” which only upset the IC Champion more. They continued as Sheamus got the crowd going and he mounted his attack. Then Sheamus nailed a Celtic Cross for a close two count.

Bron Breakker nailed a Gorilla Press slam next for a close call of his own, but Sheamus kicked out. Jesse Venture was loving every moment of this match on commentary. Bron nailed a Frankensteiner, but then Sheamus nailed a Brogue Kick when Bron went for a spear, but Breakker got his foot on the bottom rope.

Fans were going wild for Sheamus as he tried to finish things. He tried for another Brogue Kick, but his ribs caused him to miss his kick. Then Breakker nailed a spear to retain the title. This was a heartbreaking loss for Sheamus on a big stage, but his story may not be over yet.
