Sheamus didn’t get his WrestleMania moment this year, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying.

The Celtic Warrior revealed to Alex McCarthy of Daily Mail that he pushed hard to be involved in the Intercontinental Championship picture at WrestleMania 41, but WWE had other plans.

“I had pitched to hopefully get in the Intercontinental title stuff again,” Sheamus said. “They’re probably tired of me talking about it, but that’s the one title that I have left to become the first-ever ultimate Grand Slam Champion in WWE. That’s the Holy Grail, that’s it.”

Instead, Dominik Mysterio captured the Intercontinental Title in a four-way match against Bron Breakker, Penta, and Finn Balor, leaving Sheamus on the sidelines.

The frustration of missing WrestleMania was tough for the former WWE Champion, who last appeared in the Royal Rumble match before sitting out the marquee event. “I was gutted that I wasn’t at Mania,” Sheamus admitted. “I want to be in the mix. I love putting on banger after banger. I love that intensity. I don’t want to miss anything and I don’t want to miss a WrestleMania. It was tough. I’m not going to lie, it was really really hard.”

Sheamus remains determined to complete his quest for the Intercontinental Championship and become WWE’s first-ever ultimate Grand Slam Champion, but WWE’s current plans kept him out of the spotlight at WrestleMania.
