Shayna Baszler’s WWE in-ring future may still be on pause, but that hasn’t kept her out of the action entirely. Despite her shocking release from WWE back in May, the former NXT Women’s Champion is quietly staying active with the company—just behind the curtain.
As previously reported, Baszler served as a producer for the July 8th edition of WWE NXT, specifically for the match between Kelani Jordan and Lainey Reid. She was working alongside Chris Girard. While this news surprised fans, it turns out she’s actually been around for longer than expected.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Baszler has been producing more than just this one match. He revealed that she’s been at multiple NXT tapings as part of her 90-day non-compete period following her release.
“She has been at NXT tapings. She has agented other matches, but this is the first one to come out. But it’s not like she has taken a job as an agent. She is doing it since she’s around and they’ve asked her,” Meltzer explained.
WWE released Baszler just weeks after she appeared on SmackDown in April as part of the Pure Fusion Collective with Zoey Stark and Sonya Deville. The release blindsided many within the company, especially since she had re-signed not long before.
Whether this producing role becomes a full-time backstage gig or simply a short-term fill-in while her non-compete runs out is unclear. But what is clear is that Baszler’s deep understanding of the business hasn’t gone unnoticed.
