Shawn Michaels may have stepped away from the ring, but the damage done to his body still lingers—especially from that infamous casket match injury.

According to Kevin Nash on the Kliq This podcast, HBK recently underwent surgery to remove rods that had been inserted into his back decades ago, and the situation was far from minor. Nash didn’t hold back when revealing the reason for the surgery, tying it directly to the brutal match that nearly ended Michaels’ career.

“What did he just… um, Shawn just got done? He got an operation because when he f**** his back up in that casket match, they put some rods and s*** in his back, and they had to take them out because they were all twisted.”*

The WWE Hall of Famer also reflected on similar experiences from Hulk Hogan, who wrestled for years with rods in his back before finally having them taken out. Nash painted a wild image when describing Hogan’s post-op photo.

“I remember when Hulk showed me a picture of his X-rays. They put rods in his back, but he kept working and dropping the leg. When they took the rods out, he had a picture of him laying there, and it looked like they were part of the f***** Twin Towers.”*

Despite the severity of Shawn’s surgery, Nash said he hadn’t had a moment to catch up with him since the procedure, joking that even his own wife doesn’t hear from him much lately. Still, he shared that Michaels is already experiencing some relief.

“So Shawn just had that done, and I guess I haven’t had a chance to talk to him because I haven’t had a chance to talk to my f***** wife that lives with me. But he woke up from surgery and was in less pain. Shawn needs both his knees replaced on top of that.”*

While Michaels continues his work behind the scenes in NXT, it’s clear that his body is still paying the price for a legendary in-ring career. With back rods now removed and the prospect of knee replacements on the horizon, fans can only hope HBK finds lasting relief and comfort in daily life.
