Bret Hart’s comments about Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon led to major controversy—but now the real story is here, and it’s coming directly from Shawn Michaels.

This comes after months of controversy sparked by Bret Hart, who made explosive claims in late 2025 alleging that Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels slept together. Now, speaking on The Ringer Wrestling Show on April 10, 2026, Michaels has directly addressed those accusations for the first time.

When asked about Hart’s ongoing comments and whether he still keeps up with them, Michaels acknowledged hearing about the claims—but made his stance immediately clear.

“You know, so—and I’ve heard him, yeah. So I hear about whatever—doing things with Vince—which you go like, ‘What are you going to do?’ It never happened.”

Instead of escalating things, Michaels leaned into a more measured response, suggesting that this kind of narrative is just part of the wrestling world. He continued by explaining that he doesn’t put much weight into the claims or the noise surrounding them.

“But, you know, it’s the wrestling business. I don’t know what’s out there anymore. I’m never sure what’s out there to get a rise out of people or to make things—it’s the wrestling business, and I just don’t put a lot of stock in that.”

Michaels then shifted the focus away from controversy, referencing his past interactions with Hart and acknowledging that not everyone is going to see things the same way. He made it clear that he’s not interested in holding grudges or fueling the back-and-forth.

“All I know is we had a nice conversation in the room—how to put his suspenders on. He went out there. I—you know, there might be things that he doesn’t like. I understand that. And there’s lots of things people don’t like. Everybody has a right to their opinion on everything these days. I don’t begrudge anyone that.”

Instead, Michaels made it clear that his focus now is on his current role and personal life, particularly his work in WWE NXT. He also reflected on his mindset at this stage of his career, making it clear he’s choosing positivity over conflict.

“I just do everything I can to focus on me and my life. And, you know, I know that we’re—I know we’re a happy family. I know we have a good time in NXT. It sounds silly, I guess, but good news and stuff like that is not click-worthy and binge-worthy. But, you know, I live a positive, joyful life. It’s boring as hell, I guess, to some people, but I’d just rather do that than the other.”

Michaels closed by reinforcing that he has no interest in becoming bitter or getting dragged into negativity.

“And I always say that I don’t want to be a bitter, crotchety old-timer. I feel like we’ve got enough of those. And not to imply that anyone is—I’m just saying that I prefer to look at life as the glass half full and go from there. So it ain’t popular.”

With that, Michaels has officially responded—and instead of firing back, he’s chosen to deny the claims outright and move on. After months of speculation, the ball is now back in Bret Hart’s court—if he chooses to respond again.

Do you think Shawn Michaels handled this the right way by shutting it down and moving on, or should he have addressed Bret Hart more directly? Let us know your thoughts below.
