Seth Rollins’ shocking Money in the Bank cash-in on CM Punk at SummerSlam wasn’t just a surprise for fans — it was a secret so closely guarded that even his wife, Becky Lynch, had to lie to her closest friends and family. And according to Rollins, she was not thrilled about it.
Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Rollins admitted that Lynch had to keep the “fake injury” storyline going for nearly three weeks, something that didn’t sit well with her.
“My wife is an unwilling participant in this ruse. She was very upset with me for making her lie to all of her friends and family for the better part of three weeks. She was very upset. I was like, ‘Honey, just trust me, the payoff will be great.’”
While Lynch struggled with the deception, their young daughter Roux found it hilarious. Rollins told her the injury was just pretend and asked her to keep it quiet — but she wasted no time spilling the beans to her preschool teacher.
“My daughter thought it was a fun little game. I told her, ‘Daddy’s got a pretend boo-boo for the next few weeks, so let’s just keep that on the low.’ First thing she did was tell the preschool teacher, Miss Joy. And of course, she had to tell me she told Miss Joy, and she had to give me the classic ‘na na boo boo, I told Miss Joy.’ How am I supposed to get this through? Focus, Roux. Kayfabe.”
The ruse even included Lynch posting a video of Rollins walking with crutches to sell the storyline, fooling fans across social media. In the end, the payoff came when Rollins faked being injured at SummerSlam, only to cash in and snatch the WWE World Heavyweight Title from CM Punk in front of a shocked MetLife Stadium crowd.
