Seth Rollins vs. GUNTHER may be one of WrestleMania 42’s biggest matches — but now Rollins himself is confirming just how late it all came together.
On April 9, 2026, Seth Rollins addressed the matchup while speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, revealing that the bout with GUNTHER was finalized only recently — backing up earlier reports about the late creative decision. Rollins didn’t dance around it either. He openly acknowledged the timing of the match while also making it clear how much it means for him to even be in this position.
“Yeah. I mean, I’m back—back on WWE television, fully healed, fully cleared, ready to have a match at WrestleMania.”
He then reflected on how serious things felt when he first got injured — and how WrestleMania immediately became the target. When asked directly if that was his goal during recovery, Rollins didn’t hesitate — and explained why missing the event carries so much weight for him.
“Man, I’m telling you—the idea of missing WrestleMania when I first got hurt in October, right—that was the first thing I thought of. I’m like, ‘I’ve got to get back by WrestleMania.’ Yes. And I’ve been in this scenario way too many times—to get hurt and then maybe miss WrestleMania. I missed one WrestleMania in my career, and it was one of my lowest moments.”
From there, he shifted focus to the match itself — and confirmed what had already been reported about how quickly it came together.
“So I’m very happy to be back and be able to get in the ring—not just do, like, a run-in or anything like that, but actually have a contest wrestling one of the best in the world, GUNTHER. In a match that’s kind of come together over the last couple of weeks, and so I’m pretty excited for that one.”
That line is key — because it lines up directly with reports that WWE only locked in Rollins vs. GUNTHER late in the creative process, despite it being a marquee WrestleMania match.
Rollins also made it clear that while he’s not predicting a winner, he’s guaranteeing something else: “I’m not going to make any predictions as far as the outcome is concerned. What I will predict is that I will put on a show, because it’s WrestleMania, and that’s what I do.”
And he doubled down on exactly what fans should expect from him when the lights are on. He also acknowledged the pressure of returning from injury straight onto WWE’s biggest stage — without any warm-up matches.
“And so, if anybody out there is wondering what version of Seth Rollins we’re going to get, I promise you right now—I will look you dead in the eye—you are going to get the very best version. You are going to get the WrestleMania version of Seth Rollins that you know and are accustomed to. I will bring everything that I have got in Las Vegas.
Yeah, it’s exciting. I mean, it’s nerve-wracking anytime you come back and your first match is at WrestleMania. You don’t even get, like, a couple of trial runs or anything like that—you’re just into the fire. But I mean, this is not my first rodeo.”
With WrestleMania 42 just around the corner, Rollins’ comments make one thing clear — even though the match came together late, he’s treating it like one of the biggest moments of his career.
