WrestleMania 40 was a historic night for Cody Rhodes, as he finally achieved his lifelong dream of becoming WWE’s Undisputed Champion by defeating Roman Reigns. While Cody was celebrating, earlier in the evening, Seth Rollins experienced heartbreak, losing his World Heavyweight Championship to Drew McIntyre.
During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Rollins opened up about his emotions watching Cody’s victory, admitting it brought a mix of happiness and envy. “I had a different experience watching Cody win the title. I felt joy, probably a little bit of jealousy,” Rollins shared.
Rollins explained that his feelings stemmed from his own WWE journey, where he hasn’t been given the same opportunities as some of his peers. “I’ve never really been the guy who has been handed the ball that way. For the last ten years, it’s been Roman, for the most part, and then Cody comes back, and he kind of gets that treatment as well. I’ve always felt like I wanted to be that person, and I could be that guy, but it just wasn’t for me in the eyes of the people who were making those decisions.”
Despite the envy, Rollins acknowledged his role in the success of stars like Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. “Roman doesn’t get to where he’s at without me, I don’t think. I think he’d tell you that as well. Certainly Cody coming back, there is a reason why when he came back, I was the person they put him with. I don’t think he’s where he’s at if it’s not for me,” he said.
For Rollins, it’s always been about the bigger picture. “I’ve always been the person who wanted to put the industry and company before my own personal desires. I was okay with it. If all did better, if the company did better, and the business as a whole was healthier, I felt like I was doing my part, even if it was kind of an ensemble.”
Seth Rollins’ take on Cody Rhodes’ WrestleMania 40 win is raw and real, blending pride with a touch of envy. His role in shaping WWE’s biggest stars can’t be overlooked, but his desire for the spotlight adds another layer to his journey.
As Rollins continues to prove he’s a vital part of WWE’s success, the question remains—will he ever get the chance to truly be the guy? Let us know what you think!
