Before they were WWE’s ultimate power couple, Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch were just two coworkers with chemistry and commitment issues. In a raw conversation on Going Deeper, the pair told the full story of how they went from awkward backstage intros in 2014 to nearly losing each other in 2019—before finally realizing they were meant to be.
When Becky first arrived in WWE, there was an unspoken pressure for new talent to walk around and introduce themselves. That’s exactly how she met Seth.
“You’re always supposed to go up and say hi to everybody… you feel like you’re interrupting people and annoying people the whole time… but you don’t want to get that reputation. So I came up to introduce myself and I was like, ‘Hi, I’m Rebecca.’”
Seth remembered it well—and not just because of her entrance. Fast-forward a few years to 2018. They were friends, hanging out, and flirting—but Seth made it clear he wasn’t looking for anything serious.
“She just talked my head off for an hour straight. The first time I ever met her, she just went… and I was like, ‘Oh, okay. All right. Great.’”
“When I met her, I was like, I’m never getting married… I don’t think monogamy is for me.”
Becky, who described herself as someone with “armor up” emotionally, hit a wall. Eventually, she walked away—thinking she was making a rational, healthy choice. Becky actually thought Rollins would take the news well.
“Either I go in full armor and I don’t feel anything, or I don’t go in full armor and I’m just looking to get pummeled… either way, it’s not a good outcome for me.”
“I was like, ‘This doesn’t work for me. I don’t want to be half in. What are we doing if we’re not doing this properly? We can just be friends.’”
“I was so happy about this revelation. I was like, ‘Oh my god, wait till I tell him, he’s going to be delighted.’”
Instead, he spiraled.
“As soon as she said she was out, I was like, ‘Oh no, you are not. You are in.’ I was like, what is wrong with me? I cannot let this slip through my fingers… I realized I’d gone about this all wrong.”
While they were apart, Becky experienced a turning point at a fan signing. She saw people wearing Seth Rollins merch—and couldn’t stop gushing.
“I saw people with Seth Rollins shirts… and I just lit up. I was just talking about how great he was. There was this massive line of people and I’m just going on about how great Seth Rollins is. And then I was like, ‘God damn it… I should call him.’”
When she told Seth she wanted to try again, he was all in. And he wasted no time planning their future together.
“When she came back and told me that she was like, ‘No, I think I want to do this,’ I was like, yeah… that was it.”
“I started ring shopping within two months. I told my friends, ‘Oh yeah, we’re probably going to get married. You can bank on that.’”
Becky, however, remained cautious—haunted by how unsure he’d been before. She explained the fear behind her hesitation:
“I was still a little nervous because of everything he had told me… it was so easy and so comfortable, but I was like, ‘Don’t pull the cart before the horse.’”
“Either I go in full armor and I don’t feel anything… or I go in without armor and I get pummeled. Either way… not a good outcome for me.”
But Seth had made up his mind. They got engaged in August 2019, just months after getting together officially. The wedding was originally planned for 2020 in Hawaii—but like many others, COVID delayed those plans.
“I just want you. That’s all I want.”
“We were going to get married in 2020… COVID screwed that up. So we lost a year and we ended up doing it in 2021.”
They still chose Hawaii for the wedding because it was where they got engaged—and though the guest list was small, the moment was huge.
“We wanted to get married in Hawaii… we had a small wedding, but even trying to get 20 people there was too much.”
What started as casual flirtation turned into one of the most grounded, committed relationships in WWE history. But it didn’t happen without heartbreak, panic, and a total 180 from one of wrestling’s biggest stars.
Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch proved that sometimes love doesn’t click right away—until one of you walks away and the other realizes they can’t let go. From emotional distance to wedding vows in Hawaii, their story is the kind of real-life twist no WWE script could ever top.
