Cody Rhodes brought the fire on SmackDown, delivering a passionate promo about John Cena’s shocking betrayal at Elimination Chamber. But according to internal run sheets, that wasn’t supposed to be his only moment on the show.

Fightful Select reports that Rhodes was originally scheduled for a backstage segment with R-Truth, but it never aired. When asked why it was cut, sources couldn’t give a definitive answer, but speculation backstage pointed to the tone of Rhodes’ promo as the reason.

The belief was that adding a comedic interaction—especially after Rhodes’ emotional speech about Cena, The Rock, and Travis Scott beating him down—would have taken away from the seriousness of the moment.

Rhodes and Truth had already shared a well-received backstage moment the week prior, where Truth, who idolizes Cena, tried to process Cena’s betrayal. While fans were hoping for a follow-up, it seems WWE decided to let Rhodes’ fiery promo stand on its own.
