Saraya Explains Why She Rejected Romance Angle in AEW

Saraya surprised fans when she announced she was leaving AEW after being with the company for over two years. While many are curious about what she’ll do next, she has now revealed that AEW once pitched a romantic storyline for her, but she turned it down.

While speaking on her Rulebreakers podcast, Saraya revealed that AEW once asked her to be part of a love story with Daddy Magic. She turned it down because she had never done a love storyline in her career and didn’t want to start.

At the time, she had a boyfriend and didn’t feel right kissing someone else, even if it was just acting and so she turned it down. She said that was the only storyline she ever refused.

For her, if a story involves kissing and she’s in a relationship, she just doesn’t think it’s okay. She also said no one ever asked her to do something like that until she joined AEW. Even though she likes Daddy Magic and thinks he’s a good guy, she didn’t feel comfortable with it and just turned it down.

“Oh yeah, AEW. So, there’s a wrestler called Daddy Magic. They wanted me to do a love storyline with him. And I’ve managed to go my whole career without doing a love storyline. I wasn’t going to start now, you know? And they were like, ‘No, all he’s going to do is kiss you.’ I had a boyfriend at the time and I was just like, I can’t do it, you guys. I just can’t do it. So I turned that down.

There’s not really any other storyline I’ve turned down. It’s just that if I have to kiss someone and I have a boyfriend, I don’t think it’s appropriate.

At any stage? Like, you could be at the beginning of your career and do a love storyline and stuff like that, but I don’t know. I’ve never really had them come up to me and be like, ‘What do you think of this? You want to kiss somebody today?’ I never had that until I got to AEW. Then they were like, ‘Can you kiss Daddy Magic?’ And I love Daddy Magic—great guy—but I just couldn’t do it. I couldn’t do it.”

Saraya also made it clear that she does not see herself returning to WWE this year. Regardless, Saraya simply had to make it clear she had no intention of doing a romantic storyline and it’s unlikely she will do it in WWE, if she goes back there.
