Saraya isn’t just speaking up—she’s calling out an entire culture.

The AEW star has always been unapologetically herself, and now she’s shining a harsh light on one of the ugliest sides of professional wrestling fandom: how some male fans objectify and harass female wrestlers. During a raw and unfiltered appearance on the Lightweights podcast, Saraya ripped into the disturbing way women in wrestling are still treated—and why it needs to change.

“We have to deal with a lot of s** just for being female wrestlers in general—like people not taking us seriously,”* she said. “It’s gotten a lot better over the years, but we still have to fight and claw our way to get what we want, you know? Which is really difficult.”

Saraya acknowledged the progress women have made in the business, but made it clear the struggle isn’t over. She says some fans still don’t see women in wrestling as athletes—they see them as something to obsess over.

“Some male fans can be really creepy. They feel like they know you, like you’re their girlfriend or something, and they can be so inappropriate to us on a daily basis. It’s really creepy,” she explained. “When you’re in the ring, people just treat you like you’re meat rather than anything else.”

And it doesn’t stop at wrestling. Saraya says the behavior reflects a bigger issue women face everywhere—whether they’re on TV, walking down the street, or just living their lives.

“That’s true in any field,” she said. “If you’re a woman walking down the street, you have to deal with getting whistled at, barked at, whatever the case may be.”

Saraya’s not sugarcoating the truth—and she’s not asking for sympathy. What she wants is respect. Real respect. Not just for herself, but for every woman in the wrestling world who’s had to put up with being objectified while chasing their passion.

And with her words now out there, fans have a choice: be better, or get called out just like the ones she’s talking about.
