Former AEW star Saraya is throwing it way back to the early 2000s—right down to the thongs.
On her Rule Breakers podcast, Saraya joined a group conversation about Gen Z’s love for Y2K fashion—think low-rise jeans, denim-on-denim, and exposed lingerie straps. That’s when the former WWE Divas Champion revealed an unexpected memory from her childhood that involved some bold fashion choices and a whole lot of Lita inspiration.
“You know what I used to do? I was obsessed with shorts. I was obsessed with Lita the wrestler growing up, and I was really really young, and obviously wasn’t wearing thongs. So, I stole my mom’s thongs.”
Saraya explained how Lita’s signature look—low-rise pants with a visible thong strap—left a huge impression on her growing up.
“Lita would do this thing where she put her thongs above her hips… it was that low-rise jeans trend. That feels very 90s.”
She went all in on the look—even if her mom didn’t quite get it.
“Yeah! She thought it was weird, too. But you know what? I wanted to be Lita so bad. It was like a costume. So, I had like the baggy pants that went below my hips and the thong above my hips. So, you know, I was this child running around with thongs very high.”
It’s not every day you hear someone proudly admit to raiding their mom’s underwear drawer for wrestling cosplay—but for Saraya, Lita was that influential. Whether you’re a fan of the Y2K revival or still recovering from those fashion crimes, Saraya’s story just shows how deep wrestling inspiration can run.
What do you think—was Lita’s thong-over-jeans look a fashion statement or a fashion disaster? Drop your take in the comments and let us know.
