Saraya and Disturbed bassist John Moyer exposed the raw truth behind their darkest moments during a powerful and emotional conversation on Rule Breakers with Saraya. During the uncut exchange, the two got painfully real about their past battles with addiction, revealing how alcohol and cocaine nearly derailed their lives.

Saraya started by owning up to how her drug and alcohol use spiraled out of control and wrecked both personal and professional relationships.

“And you know, I—I was the same way because I—I love um drugs, right? Cuz you’re—you’re like six years now. Six years. And I really needed it cuz I was getting like—I was getting in so much trouble and I was ending up on TMZ and just like I was ruining relationships. Yeah, it was just business and personal, you know, I was ruining a lot of things. “Yeah, it’s a—it’s a spiral, dude. It’s crazy.”

Saraya then opened up about growing up in a family with a history of alcoholism and how her environment shaped her behavior.

“But yeah, when it comes to alcohol, um me and my family, I come from a family of alcoholics, you know, and so it is a family disease.”

Moyer responded without hesitation, “It is. It’s hereditary. I’m telling you, it is.” Saraya continued, describing how alcohol became her go-to escape and how the drinking was never casual—it was all or nothing.

“And so like I’ve always been surrounded by alcohol, especially being from England, you know, where that’s—the culture is to drink, you know. But um I’m the same way when it comes to—I can’t just have one. I can’t do it. I have to have—once I have one, I’m like I’m in trouble and then I will go until I’m blackout.”

She then admitted that during her worst moments, she relied on cocaine to try to level out after heavy drinking—only to get trapped in a vicious cycle of substance abuse.

“And then on top of that, I don’t know if you dabbled in all the other stuff too, but then I would want coke cuz then I’d be like, I need to sober up, you know?”

Moyer responded with painful honesty, revealing the emotional consequences of trying to function while addicted.

“Yeah. Yeah. ‘How am I going to get through this day?’ And then you phone yourself through the day, shortchanging everybody who relies on you and cares about you, walking around a f**king cloud of embarrassment and a haze of not really thinking anything through. Yeah. It’s just awful.”

This kind of honesty isn’t something you hear every day—especially from two names who’ve lived under the spotlight. Saraya and John Moyer ripped the mask off addiction and said the quiet part out loud. No filters. No PR spin. Just the ugly truth about what it costs to live fast and crash harder. And now that they’ve survived it, they’re not just telling their story—they’re owning it.
