Santos Escobar is officially staying with WWE, even after his previous contract quietly expired at midnight on October 6. For a brief moment, the former NXT Cruiserweight Champion was technically a free agent. But WWE moved quickly with a time-sensitive deal and locked him into a new agreement before he could entertain outside offers.
Escobar is already slated for an upcoming appearance at the next episode of Monday Night RAW in Anaheim, California, at the Honda Center. It’s unclear whether he’ll be wrestling or just making an on-screen return, but his presence is confirmed.
His re-signing caught many within WWE by surprise. WWE had extended him one of their now well-known “exploding offers”—contracts that are only valid for a limited time, aimed at getting fast decisions from key talents. The move worked, and Escobar chose to stay.
