WWE can’t make a top Superstar out of everyone, even if they try. The company certainly had an opportunity with Santos Escobar, and his character saw a shift over time, but things didn’t pan out for him, and his contract expired.
Santos Escobar’s WWE situation remains unclear, even months after his contract status appeared to be resolved. Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Escobar re-signed with WWE months ago but has not been used. It was reported that the situation was described as something that “fell through the cracks,” though there have been internal talks about getting things back on track.
Escobar’s WWE contract expired in October 2025, and he was briefly listed in the company’s alumni section, which usually signals a departure. He posted on social media with a message that implied he was moving on as well.
Days later, Escobar unexpectedly re-signed with WWE. Reports at the time stated WWE addressed some of his concerns and made a stronger offer to keep him under contract. Despite that, he has not appeared on WWE programming since.
As of this writing, Santos Escobar is still signed to WWE, but has no clear creative direction in place. That has raised some questions from fans, especially since his contract expiration meant he would not have been subject to a non-compete clause and could have explored other options, including All Elite Wrestling. For the moment, his status remains in limbo as WWE works to sort out what comes next.
