After off WWE TV, Santos Escobar made a return on Saturday night—but not in WWE.

Escobar appeared unannounced during Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide’s debut broadcast on FOX Latin America, marking his first on-screen appearance since July 27, 2025. The segment saw a masked figure—wearing Escobar’s old El Hijo del Fantasma gear—confront AAA Latin American Champion El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., lay him out, and then reveal himself to be Santos Escobar. This surprise moment ended Escobar’s lengthy hiatus and kicked off what appears to be a high-profile return to his roots in AAA.

Shortly after the segment aired, WWE posted a video of Escobar backstage, where he issued a brief but cutting statement on his absence and return.

“What do you want? You want to know something about me now? Six months I was away, not one question. I show up again. Nah, it doesn’t work like that. You want to know something about me? Now it’s on my time.”

Escobar re-signed with WWE in October 2025 after briefly entering free agency. He reportedly turned down WWE’s initial offer due to creative concerns, but eventually agreed to a multi-year deal once those issues were resolved. His return to AAA—while still under WWE contract—suggests the company is supporting his international presence as part of his renewed push.

While Escobar’s past in AAA as El Hijo del Fantasma is well-documented, this updated version of the star seems poised to make a new kind of impact—and he’s doing it on his terms.

What do you think of Santos Escobar’s surprise return to AAA? Should WWE feature him more prominently now that he’s back in action? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
