Samoa Joe isn’t chasing a farewell tour, but that doesn’t mean he’s stepping away from wrestling entirely.
Whiles speaking with SHAK Wrestling, the AEW World Champion opened up about what kind of role he sees for himself once he hangs up the boots — and he’s keeping all options on the table. When asked about life after in-ring action, Joe said he’s not hung up on titles or specific roles — he just wants to contribute in any way that makes the industry stronger.
“Honestly, whatever role will have me. Once again, I’m not worried about what it is I’ll do. That’s not an issue for me. I mean, you plug me in wherever — I’ll do whatever it takes to help us as much as we need to be helped in that area.”
Joe explained that his focus is now on lifting up the next generation of stars. Whether it’s behind the scenes, in a developmental role, or somewhere entirely new, his mission is to build better performers.
“Yeah, I mean, I think I definitely would like to have some involvement with the industry. I’d love to work with younger athletes and help them develop and become better — obviously, if they choose to want to work with me.”
For Joe, his legacy isn’t about title counts or sendoffs. It’s about making a real impact on the future of wrestling.
“That’s really it. Just try to continue to make stronger and stronger performers for the fans to enjoy at home. I mean, that’s really kind of what I want to leave to the business. If I leave anything for a legacy, it’s that 10 superstars became greater because of my help and were able to entertain you into the near future.”
Joe’s perspective is rare in an industry often focused on the spotlight. Rather than demand one last ovation, he’s looking ahead, determined to build something lasting beyond his own time in the ring.
