Sami Zayn may have captured the United States Championship on the road to WrestleMania 42 — but the reaction online tells a very different story.
After defeating Carmelo Hayes in a chaotic match on the March 27 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Zayn walked out with the title following interference involving Trick Williams. While the moment was framed as a big win heading into WrestleMania, the immediate fan response hasn’t been nearly as positive.
WWE later uploaded the match finish to its official YouTube channel — and that’s where things turned. At the time of writing, the video has pulled in 7.8K likes compared to 12.2K dislikes, with roughly 61.1% of viewers hitting the dislike button. That ratio makes it clear that a large portion of the audience isn’t on board with Zayn taking the title in this situation.
The numbers stand out, especially considering the timing with WrestleMania 42 approaching fast — a period where momentum and fan support typically matter most for champions.
While Zayn’s win positions him as a key player heading into the biggest show of the year, this kind of reaction raises questions about how the storyline is being received — and whether WWE expected this level of pushback.
