A major WWE push for Sami Zayn may have been in the works heading into WrestleMania season—but with creative plans in flux, it’s unclear if that moment will still happen.
According to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, Zayn was discussed and even tentatively planned for a world championship match ahead of WrestleMania. These discussions took place throughout WWE’s recent European tour, where Zayn was featured prominently in top contender qualifier matches and made it to the finals.
At one point, the Royal Rumble was floated as a potential event for the title shot, but sources reiterated that the match was “likely before WrestleMania.” Now, with creative direction shifting in recent weeks, there’s uncertainty around whether that plan is still in motion.
One WWE source said his was a long-term story beat that several members of creative had been aiming to reach, specifically dating back to Zayn’s 2025 feud with Karrion Kross.
Zayn has remained a fan-favorite and steady presence on WWE programming, and the idea of him entering the world title picture has consistently generated strong crowd reactions and social momentum. But as WrestleMania season heats up and WWE adjusts its plans, it remains to be seen if this opportunity will still materialize.
