Matt Riddle isn’t one to hold back, and in a new interview with Scott Johnson on the Going Ringside podcast, he had some interesting things to say about his former WWE allies.
When asked about the hardest opponent he’s faced in the ring, Riddle didn’t hesitate to name Sheamus, praising him as tough but easy to work with. However, things took a turn when he brought up Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, implying that working with them was far from smooth.
“Hardest opponent in the ring? I would have to say Sheamus. Sheamus—easy to work with, hits really hard. So hardest in the ring. But then when I think about who’s harder to maybe work with, I would have to say Sami Zayn or Kevin Owens… It’s hard to put a complete sentence together with those guys, if you know what I’m saying… Very difficult. Sheamus hits ya hard, but it’s easy to put together.”
The MLW World Heavyweight Champion shared the ring with Owens and Zayn multiple times in 2023, tagging with them post-WrestleMania 39. While he didn’t elaborate on exactly why they were difficult, fans are already speculating whether it was personality clashes, communication issues, or just in-ring chemistry.
Riddle is currently preparing for the 40-man Battle Riot match on April 5, where he’ll be defending his MLW World Heavyweight Championship.
What do you think Riddle meant by his comments about Owens and Zayn? Was it just a miscommunication, or is there real backstage tension? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
