Sabu’s appearance on the Legion of Skanks Podcast, uploaded to YouTube just one day before his passing, took a chilling turn as he opened up about his brutal match against Joey Janela at GCW Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9.

The hardcore legend didn’t hold back in describing how things spiraled out of control during the No Rope Barbed Wire match.

“I had so much more I wanted to do in that match, but I got knocked out halfway through it,” Sabu said. “So, they threw in a bunch of [ __ ] and it wasn’t my match.”

Sabu went on to describe the disorienting aftermath of being knocked out. “I woke up in a pool of blood. My eyes were open, but I don’t remember any of that. My body was vibrating,” he recalled.

Despite being visibly shaken, Sabu insisted on continuing the match. “My manager came over to me. He just said, ‘You got knocked out.’ Yeah, I thought I did. He goes, ‘Just wait here for a minute.’ And then all this other [ __ ] was going on. So I waited until I got my bearings back till I got back in,” Sabu said.

Reflecting on the brutality of wrestling in barbed wire, Sabu shrugged it off. “You feel it, but uh you don’t put it over. It’s as painful as you make it. If you’re afraid of it, it’s painful. You don’t give a [ __ ]. Not so bad,” he added.

Sabu’s final words in the podcast are haunting in retrospect, as they reveal a man who was battered, bleeding, and refusing to call it quits. His death just a day later now casts a grim shadow over his description of that last match.
