Before his passing, Sabu made it clear that he wasn’t interested in a WWE Hall of Fame induction — and he didn’t hold back about why.
In a December 2024 interview with DonutShopChronicles365, the ECW legend addressed the possibility of a Hall of Fame nod, admitting he didn’t see himself as a WWE Hall of Famer.
“I don’t know. Probably never, really,” Sabu said when asked about the Hall of Fame. “I’m not eligible for the WWE Hall of Fame, not that I want to be anyway, because I didn’t have a Hall of Fame career while I was there.”
Sabu’s WWE tenure was brief, limited to the company’s ECW revival in 2006. Despite competing in a high-profile match at WrestleMania 23 alongside Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, and The Sandman, Sabu felt that his time in WWE didn’t warrant a Hall of Fame induction.
In the same interview, Sabu was blunt about why he wasn’t impressed with WWE’s Hall of Fame, pointing to celebrity inductees as a reason for his disinterest. “Rob Van Dam is Hall of Fame material too, but is Drew Carey? Is Drew Carey Hall of Fame material? He goes in it, that means it’s going to be bullshi,”* Sabu said, dismissing the Hall’s credibility.
Sabu’s comments surfaced after Sami Zayn renewed his call for a Hall of Fame induction following Sabu’s death. Zayn had been pushing for Sabu to receive the honor since 2022, tweeting, “Sabu should be in the Hall of Fame.”
After Sabu’s passing, Zayn quote-tweeted his original post, writing, “This is a gut punch. I was pushing this agenda again a few weeks ago after Sabu had his final match. RIP Sabu. One of a kind, absolute legend, and a true game changer for professional wrestling.”
Sabu’s last match occurred earlier this year when he faced Joey Janela during WrestleMania weekend. Despite his impact on hardcore wrestling and ECW, Sabu clearly wasn’t seeking a Hall of Fame nod from WWE, instead remaining focused on his legacy outside of the company.
