Sabu Personal Life

Sabu was of Lebanese descent through his mother and had Irish and German ancestry from his father’s side. He married a Japanese woman named Hitomi on June 22, 1997, in Michigan, with a subsequent ceremony in Tokyo on December 12, 1998. The couple later divorced. In the mid-2010s, Sabu began a relationship with fellow wrestler and manager Melissa Coates, known as “Super Genie,” who passed away in 2021 due to COVID-19 complications. Sabu was known for his reserved nature, often avoiding interviews and public speaking, a trait he attributed to his shyness and desire to maintain the mystique of his wrestling persona.

On May 11, 2025, news broke that Sabu had passed away at the age of 60. His death occurred just weeks after his retirement match against Joey Janela at GCW Spring Break 9 on April 18, 2025. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
