Alexa Bliss’ life as a WWE Superstar comes with plenty of bumps and bruises — and sometimes those marks lead to some awkward questions.

While speaking on the Artist Friendly with Joel Madden podcast, Bliss’ husband Ryan Cabrera revealed that the injuries she brings home from matches can look so serious that doctors occasionally worry something else is going on. Cabrera explained that watching what WWE performers put their bodies through has given him a whole new perspective on the physical toll of the job.

“Being behind the scenes with my wife, it’s insane what they go through and what they put their bodies through.”

According to Cabrera, the bruises Bliss gets from wrestling matches can cover her arms and elbows — sometimes looking bad enough to raise red flags during routine doctor visits: “What’s tough is that she’ll come home with bruises everywhere, all over her arms.”

He then shared a story about what sometimes happens when they take their child to the pediatrician. If he steps out of the room, medical staff have occasionally pulled Bliss aside to check if everything is okay at home, raising concerns for domestic violence. Bliss then has to explain that the bruises are simply part of the job.

“If we go to the pediatrician and I step out to the bathroom, they’ll ask her, ‘Are you okay? Is everything okay at home?’ And she has to explain, ‘No, everything’s fine — I’m a wrestler. This is what happens.’”

Cabrera also pointed out that certain areas of a wrestler’s body — especially elbows and arms — tend to take a beating during matches, which can make the injuries look especially alarming. At times, the marks can even resemble fingerprints, which understandably raises concerns for anyone who doesn’t realize what WWE performers go through.

“Their elbows get all beat up, and sometimes the bruises look really bad. Right now it almost looks like there’s a fingerprint on her arm. I always tell her she’s got to remind people she’s a wrestler.”

Bottom line — the story shows just how physically demanding life in WWE can be, even if the bruises sometimes lead to a few awkward explanations outside the ring.
