Looks like the rumored tag team name for The Rock and John Cena just got shut down in brutal fashion.
Brian Gewirtz, The Rock’s longtime business partner and former WWE head of creative, took to Twitter to completely dismiss the claim that WWE is considering “The Rock and Soul Connection” as their official name. Quote tweeting a report about the supposed name, Gewirtz simply wrote: “Your sources are drunk.”
Gewirtz plays a major role in anything The Rock does in WWE, making it clear that there’s no truth to this rumor—at least for now.
The original report claimed that the name was being floated as a tribute to Rocky Johnson, The Rock’s late father, who was known as “The Soulman.” But with Gewirtz stepping in to shut it down, it looks like WWE fans won’t be hearing that name on TV anytime soon.
Meanwhile, John Cena’s return is still set for March 17 in Brussels, where WWE is reportedly considering a major angle involving R-Truth to further establish Cena’s heel turn. While Cena has remained silent since betraying Cody Rhodes at Elimination Chamber, this upcoming segment could finally show just how ruthless the new Cena will be.
With Gewirtz putting the name rumor to rest, what do you think WWE should call The Rock and Cena as a team? And do you think Cena destroying R-Truth would be the best way to cement his new villainous persona? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
