The mystery surrounding WWE’s masked attacker just took another turn—and it’s bad news for anyone hoping Chris Jericho would be the man behind the chaos.
Despite his name being tossed around by fans online due to his legacy and history with WWE, Dave Meltzer made it clear in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Jericho isn’t part of the storyline—at least for now.
According to Meltzer, while WWE has kept things deliberately ambiguous by using multiple performers to throw fans off, Jericho isn’t in the plans. Referencing speculation about Jericho delivering the curb stomp attacks, Meltzer wrote:
“Theory has not been the only person under the mask doing the curb stomp run-ins. Obviously until the reveal happens it could be anyone. Obviously the biggest pop would be Jericho, but I was told and I expected this to be the case, that there is a zero percent chance it will end up as Jericho. At least as of this week because anything is possible in wrestling but right now that is not in the plans.”
The masked figure first appeared at Survivor Series: WarGames, attacking CM Punk with a curb stomp—a move forever tied to Seth Rollins. Since then, the masked attacker has continued to strike on RAW, targeting top names like LA Knight and Rey Mysterio.
To keep the mystery alive, WWE has been swapping in different wrestlers under the hood. Bryan Alvarez recently confirmed that Montez Ford—who was originally rumored to have played the masked man on the December 8 episode of RAW—was not actually involved, contradicting an earlier report. Austin Theory’s name has also been floated, but nothing has been confirmed.
With Jericho now out of the conversation, WWE fans are back in detective mode trying to figure out who’s really behind the mask. The company seems dead set on swerving everyone until the final reveal—and so far, it’s working.
It’s clear that WWE is going all-in on this mystery, keeping talent and fans alike in the dark as they build toward what could be a game-changing moment. So if it’s not Jericho, and Theory’s still unconfirmed—who’s next on your suspect list? Let us know your theories in the comments—we’re watching every guess, no matter how wild.
