Royce Keys has opened up about one of the most painful moments of his life — and it’s a story that puts everything into perspective.

While speaking with Stephanie McMahon on “What’s Your Story?” on February 19, 2026, Royce Keys reflected on his childhood and revealed that his brother lost his life protecting him. Keys didn’t shy away from the gravity of the situation as he described the circumstances.

“My brother was a big drug dealer. He lost his life saving me. It was one of those things — I don’t know if I should say it was meant to happen — but if you play a certain game, you win certain prizes.”

Keys didn’t romanticize the situation. He then described the moment in haunting detail — a memory that clearly hasn’t faded with time.

“He sacrificed himself to save me. I still replay it in my head — seeing him laying there, gasping for air, blood coming out of him — and you don’t even know what you’re supposed to feel in that moment. It was someone just trying to get by, and he lost his life.”

The former Powerhouse Hobbs explained that the memory still lingers in his mind, replaying in a way that’s difficult to process even years later.

“There are certain things I hear that remind me of him. I felt guilty for so many years. I felt guilty for wanting to be like him. But at the same time, if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have had certain things growing up.”

At the end of the day, Royce Keys’ story is a reminder that the larger-than-life characters seen on television often carry deeply personal histories that shaped who they became. Keys is living with the weight of someone else’s sacrifice — something he clearly continues to process.
