While Netflix’s Unreal aims to show what goes on behind the curtain in WWE, some moments weren’t as organic as they seemed—particularly during the Royal Rumble.

Sources within WWE revealed to Fightful Select that a key locker room scene was orchestrated by production, even if the talent didn’t know it was for Netflix. One memorable moment saw the women’s roster gathered to cheer for Charlotte Flair after her Royal Rumble victory—but that wasn’t entirely spontaneous. According to those present, the talent was specifically asked to be there:

“The women’s locker room was asked to empty out to cheer for Charlotte after she won the Royal Rumble. They weren’t told it was specifically for the Netflix show, but were just asked to.”

There’s also been speculation among the roster that the Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton promo “derailment” featured in the show may have been staged for dramatic effect. But no one directly involved with the segment has confirmed that, and it remains purely theory.

Despite these behind-the-scenes decisions, most of the featured talent were left wondering how the final edit would portray them.

With reality TV, even the most “real” moments can come with a bit of coaching. This behind-the-scenes peek raises interesting questions about how much of Unreal is reality—and how much is production magic.
