Ronda Rousey is preparing for her return to mixed martial arts, but she’s already taking shots at the UFC while promoting her upcoming fight.
The UFC Hall of Famer is scheduled to face Gina Carano on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. The fight will take place under Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions banner and will stream on Netflix.
In the weeks leading up to the bout, Rousey has been making media appearances and revealed that she initially tried to make her comeback under the UFC banner. According to Rousey, she and UFC president Dana White were unable to reach an agreement.
Shortly after the UFC announced the lineup for its June 14 event set to take place at the White House, Rousey reacted publicly on social media. While promoting her own fight card, she didn’t hold back when sharing her opinion on the UFC’s upcoming event.
“#NgannouVsLins joins #RouseyVsCarano on @Netflix May 16th! How’s THAT for a bamf laden double headliner?”
Rousey then praised the promotional approach behind the card she will headline while taking a direct shot at the UFC.
“That’s what happens when you put fighters and fans ahead of shareholders @MostVpromotions. P.S. @ufc’s White House card sucks 🖕🏼😎🖕🏼.”
The May 16 event is shaping up to be a major showcase for Most Valuable Promotions, with Francis Ngannou vs. Philipe Lins also announced for the fight card. That matchup will serve as the other half of what Rousey described as a double main event.
Rousey’s fight against Carano marks her first MMA bout since leaving the UFC years ago, and it represents a high-profile return for one of the sport’s biggest stars.
Meanwhile, the UFC’s June 14 White House event remains one of the most unusual shows the promotion has ever planned, taking place on the grounds of the White House as part of a special card announced earlier this year. With Rousey now openly criticizing the lineup, the tension between the former UFC champion and the promotion she once helped build appears far from settled.
What do you think about Ronda Rousey’s comments about the UFC’s White House fight card? Do you agree with her criticism, or do you think the event will deliver once the full lineup is finalized? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
