Roman Reigns may have been left motionless on WWE RAW, but there’s a real reason for his absence beyond the three Tsunamis from Bronson Reed.
The August 4 edition of RAW ended with chaos after the World Heavyweight Title match between Seth Rollins and LA Knight. The match was thrown out after CM Punk stormed the ring and attacked Rollins. That brawl triggered a full-scale fight, leading to Roman Reigns entering the mix. Reigns—who had been taunted earlier in the night by Paul Heyman—looked ready to make a statement. Instead, he was left flattened by Reed’s trio of finishing splashes.
While fans wondered if this meant something bigger, Dave Meltzer cleared things up on Wrestling Observer Radio. According to Meltzer, the beatdown was WWE’s way of writing Reigns off television so he can film the upcoming Street Fighter movie.
“Well, I think that Roman… well, Roman’s going to be out filming the movie. So, you know, I thought that was an injury angle to take him out for a couple weeks.”
Bryan Alvarez, also on the show, chimed in about the sheer brutality of the attack:
“Could be. I mean, three Tsunamis—he should be gone for a little while.”
Meltzer then confirmed that the film shoot is happening soon—and Reigns won’t be alone on set.
“Yeah, no, I mean him and Cody and Hirooki Goto are filming that Street Fighter movie, you know, pretty soon. Yeah, like, like pretty imminently, yeah.”
The speculation fits the timing. WWE has not officially stated Reigns is injured, but the post-match attack on RAW seemed tailor-made to write him off without needing a storyline explanation. With CM Punk, LA Knight, and Seth Rollins all part of the segment, the path is wide open for future matchups in Reigns’ absence.
Roman’s shoe-snatching saga with Bronson Reed may be on pause, but his story in WWE is far from over. The real question now is—how will The Tribal Chief return once the cameras stop rolling?
